TV Patrol World Needs Improved Technical Capability

TV Patrol has been one of the most watched Kapamilya programs. I think one of the reasons that Filipinos trust it for their news is because of the credible news anchors and reporters.

Another thing is its coverage and reach. ABS-CBN News does not only has correspondents in every major city in the country, but an entire news team. It is the only Philippine TV network to establish the most news bureaus around the world. In fact, ABS-CBN News is the largest Filipino news organization.

It has been out family's habit to watch TV Patrol everyday. Tonight, I am quite frustrated with some of the way things went on.

Right at the start, Karen Davila, who is out of the studio, stared at the camera for several seconds, waiting for her cue, before she said anything.

Then Rico Lucena, who is reporting live from Cebu City, gave his report, there is no audio going out from his side. Also, while Michelle Robin who is reporting live from Davao City, she and Karen spoke together and each did not understand each other so with us.

Another thing that frustrates me is the somewhat long lag between the anchor's question and the reporter's reply, especially if the reporter is way far off. This was the reason why Karen and Michelle Robin spoke together. Each expected that its her turn speaking since it takes a little while before their voices take sometime to reach both ends.

Things like these did not only happen last night. I have seen these things happening in the past. I do not know who or which to blame. Is it the equipment? Does the network lack the best equipment to facilitate news reporting? Or is it the technical people? Do they lack the skills required to get these jobs done? Or is it both?

Whatever the reason is, it is clear that ABS-CBN Management should do something to avoid these glitches especially for a fast-paced newscast as the TV Patrol World in order for the program to continue its lead as the most watched news program in the Philippines.
